Richmond is home to several professional sports organizations, including NASCAR and AA baseball. But, travel the region on one of our many beautiful days, and you’ll see that many Richmonders would rather play than watch.
Truly, our residents love to get out and play, and opportunities abound in every corner of our region.
From our frequent running marathons to our cultural festivals, there’s always an excuse to get out of the house and play on the weekends.
Play in Richmond extends far beyond physical activity, however. Thanks in part to Virginia Commonwealth University’s top-ranked art and advertising schools, creative culture pervades the region. We are home to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, galleries and monthly art walks in several city neighborhoods.
On any night of the week, you can find live music at numerous local venues, from music clubs and restaurants to revived historic performance halls, including The National, The Landmark Theatre, and Richmond CenterStage, which regularly draw national acts. If other cultural dance offerings are more your taste, the Richmond Ballet, Elegba Folklore Society, or the many salsa venues of the region are ready to welcome you. Those interested in theater won’t be left out as many local acting troupes like the Richmond Reparatory Theatre are always ready to bring the stage to life.
For the times when you just need to go on a weekend trip, Richmond is perfectly situated for an easy get away. No matter if you seek the mountains, ocean or Washington, D.C., each destination is only 100 miles away, placing the next adventure easily within reach.
